Safety and Security Supervisor
Full-Time

Position Overview: To assist the Vice President of Safety & Security in planning and directing the daily security functions to ensure the safety, security and protection of individuals, tenants, and the public relating to regulations imposed by governing authorities.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a liaison in a supporting role to the Operations Duty Manager on a shift-to-shift basis for safety & security matters.
  • Provides specific safety and security knowledge, guidance and key contacts for internal/external SOP, rules and regulations, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Serves to maintain, document, and audit all policies pertaining to governing authorities’ regulations, including but not limiting to, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Airport Emergency Plans (AEP), and Airport Security Programs (ASP).
  • Ensures applicable patrols and security checks are performed by airport operations/security personnel.
  • Conducts SMS (Safety Management System) to manage and mitigate potential hazards to improve safety performance.
  • Conducts internal safety and security audits, and generates, updates, and maintains statistical daily, weekly, and monthly control reports based on audit findings/results.
  • Supervises the access control database for Terminal 4 employees, and investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves applicable PANYNJ (Port Authority of NY & NJ) badge issues with PANYNJ as it relates to Terminal 4 (T4) access.
  • Assists law enforcement and other stakeholders with investigations by use of CCTV footage, access control software and other means.
  • Maintains the integrity of all safety & security related processes as it pertains to the day-to-day operation of airside, terminal and landside functions.
  • Supervises CCTV, AOCC, Intercom, Vetting and Access Control systems’ functionality, and liaisons with IT, Operations, and Safety & Security Departments and respective vendors accordingly. 
  • Supervises security projects relating to security systems, executes escalation procedures for troubleshooting issues and minimized operational impact. 
  • Verifies, collaborates, and responds as needed for most safety & security related matters and communicates to Operations and Safety & Security Management for situational awareness. 
  • Provides general safety & security instructions to T4 airlines, tenants, employees, and as necessary, visitors and the traveling public. 
  • Reviews and approves submitted incident reports, and prepares comprehensive reports on safety &  security operations, documenting administrative activities i.e., IMAP procedures. 
  • Supervises JFKIAT Safety & Security Contracts relating to Landside Traffic, Employee Screening, Building Posts, and Goods & Services Screening on a shift-to-shift basis, including any third party  contracts conducting business at T4. 
  • Other duties and projects as required and assigned by the Vice President of Safety & Security.


Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Three years of aviation specific security experience OR three years of experience in a security supervisory role preferred.  
  • Associates Degree in Criminal Science or Aviation strongly preferred; One (1) year of directly related professional experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education up to (4) years. 
  • Must obtain AAAE Security ACE certification and complete SOC Training curriculum within 1 year of hire date.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to obtain proper credentials required by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, TSA, and CBP
  • This position requires shift work

The essential sensory and communicative activities include: feeling, speaking, hearing, smelling, and vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements

Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of: 

  • supervisory methods, practices and procedures  
  • airport security rules & regulations, access control, crisis response, and safety policies 
  • federal laws, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and  Customs Border Patrol (CBP) regulations  
  • geographical layout of T4’s airside, landside, and terminal facilities   

Considerable knowledge of: 

  • communications equipment and devices including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch  communications systems, security operations system, and their operation  
  • general emergency communications and dispatch procedures and protocols  
  • procedures used in administering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures and  applying and using Automated External Defibrillator (AED) equipment

SALARY RANGE: $59,000-$63,000
